I was walking home today and suddenly this stranger came up to me. He looked desperate. He went on about how he tried to find help from the Muslims at the Mosque near Surry Hills, but they had rejected in just listening to him. I felt, just this point with the rejection by a religion (*cough* of good heart) had not even tried to help because he asked a stupid question: “Are you Sri Lankan?”. He just came to Australia for a working visa, he has no family here and surviving on $2.80, because centrelink is closed he needed to buy working shoes.

I know by this point, you might think “what the hell is he on about those boots at Kmart?”. I was kind of rude and said “Can you please get to the problem?” but he wanted to tell me or express that he is telling the truth, holding those RTA forms to get a ID card, phone calls from Sri Lanka. Was I that stupid to believe this…

Anyways, I decided that I should help this person. Because if I didn’t then I would regret a 50/50 chance that I might’ve helped someone and I didn’t risk it, just to make myself feel better. He needed $49 to get boots for work and I also bought him a banana and water.

I went home. Thought. If he was a drug addict, wouldn’t he look drowsy and had problems with speech. If he was a beggar, wouldn’t he just ask me for coins or a few dollars and why would he be dressed neat and tidy. But if was a con, he was a really good liar. And if he really was, then I believe bad kharma would take care of it (I didn’t care what he did with the $50, banana and water, I just wanted to forget about the $50 ==) I guess I would’ve paid him for teaching me a lesson, it isn’t to be more careful in trusting people but the notion of money, and how it is such a scam to humans. This period we were born into a world that relies on money to succeed. What is success? To live in a big house, have lots of money and show off in diamond rings and expensive bags?

Money controls who we are, money determines who we want to be. Yes, money motivates us to be something more, but what does “more” mean?

It’s unfair to those people who don’t get the same privileges to those that live in houses that don’t leak, have warm water, enjoy a full stomach or simple freedom.

Why are we working so hard for? Why does our happiness always have to be based around money? Yeah money can’t buy happiness, but it’s all linked together.

What does $50 really mean to me, a lot ? or a start to change? But it was indeed a good thought.

I guess love is the only pure thing that money can’t really buy.

Relaxing with a sandwich. This is what I’d like to be doing. This is one I did a while back but never posted. But since my kids are out of school this week and I’m far too lazy to make anything too fancy, I’m dreaming of downtime and all things loungie. Hoping to beef up the website soon with more offerings for custom labels and shtuff like that. But this week, its playtime with the kids and vats of coffee. Weeeee!!!

Featuring ‘Ricotta Hotcakes’ - with fresh banana, honeycomb butter and dusted icing sugar. It has a soft texture and not as filling because majority of the sugar comes the natural sweetness from condiments. I also had freshly squeezed orange juice (maybe a bit sour for my taste, hey! at least it’s fresh). Go with a friend who will enjoy a healthy breakfast, they serve corn fritters too! YUM.
Price: $18.50 AUD for hotcakes and $6.50 AUD.
Place: Bills @ 359 Crown Street, Surry Hills branch.
Opening hours: 7am to 10pm 7 days a week. Lunch ends 3pm and dinner starts at 5pm.
Other goodies check out their menu: http://www.bills.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/bills-breakfast.pdf
